Recently news spread about the death of Nia Wilson who lived in Oakland California. She was only 18 years old when she was tragically stabbed to death at Oakland's MacArthur BART station.

In February I was lucky to go to Winter Roundtable at Columbia University - “Nevertheless, She Persisted: Power and Patriarchy “ - to discuss solely on the issues of race, gender, and sexuality in psychology and education. It was pretty amazing. One of the roundtable discussions was called betrayal of silence were I talked about many black women have a sense of invisibility in the BLM movement and how we have to fight to be heard. Nia Wilson is another prime example of silence. What happened to her was horrible and we need to talk about it. Newsflash: there are more than hundreds of stories like hers. You can take Anooitee Tuff for example who stopped a school shooter from potentially killing many kids at Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy a prominently black school in Dekalb Georgia. But was that ever mentioned was her heroism every brought up. Nope.
It seems that if a black child is murdered that not news - unless its REALLY dramatized and disturbing story. If a white man is murdered now that's news. If a black man is murdered that not news UNLESS white progressive choose to talk about it- then its a story. But when a black woman is murdered that seems to be the lowest degree of importance. It seems to be black and to be a woman can’t intersect together in this patriarchal society. That it needs to be race first and gender second. Which is crazy to me because I’m never a black person and THEN a woman I’m normally both at the same time as I literally can’t help it. Crazy right? The black women archetype seems to be one of destitute and constant sacrifice. That based on historical implication going back to slavery that our bodies aren’t our own. We all need to change that and stop placing black trans or cis women and other non-gender-conforming blacks last in the BLM movement. Nia Wilson died on Sunday in Oakland California by a white man named John Lee Conwell. Just make sure you become AWARE as you watch the coverage of her murder the way racism shapes the story.
Rest in Power beautiful💓
