My Internship â€‹

This summer I had the amazing opportunity to intern at Drexel University under Dr. Michelle Rogers. During my internship, I was responsible for redesigning and further developing an online presence for both desktop and mobile interfaces. I was extremely excited because I love web design and development and was ready to see what that career is really like.

I was charged with redeveloping the website for Legacy Pathways, a NASA Career Development Institute.  The founder of Legacy Pathways is Dr. Joi Spraggins.  One of the many goals and services of the organization is to mentor and teach students, especially minority students, regarding STEM fields. This is accomplished  by capitalizing  on the strengths of NASA educational offerings to address issues of low STEM student enrollment by providing information; facilitating partnerships for community resources and supporting  students and their families to connect with educational resources/services within their locality.

In the redesign of the website, I researched several domain sites, from wix.com to wordpress.com, and collaborated often with Dr. Rogers and Dr. Joi  in order to achieve the best result.  Additionally,  I practiced my CSS/HTML skills in order to give the website  a more modern look and to operate well on all devices. I met with the client on several occasions to gather information to be incorporated into the website.  Finally, I presented the website to Dr. Joi and she loved it!

This internship was a real eye-opening experience for me because it allowed me to explore various aspects of computer science, and interact with a successful entrepreneur.  Overall, this experience has furthered my interest in the field of computer science and given me a real life perspective of my future career objectives.
